For the convenience of patients, BHO occupies three inviting and well equipped facilities in Berkshire County. Designed for patient comfort and relaxation, the in-patient facilities have pleasant waiting areas, private exam rooms, and modern chemotherapy suites.
Located in Pittsfield, BHO's expansive main office also includes an on-site laboratory, X-ray equipment, and, through an Alliance Imaging mobile unit, comprehensive Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and PET/CT fusion scan services. (BHO, in fact, offers the only PET services in the entire county.) A revolutionary and powerful imaging technology that detects abnormal cell activity, PET and PET/CT have become invaluable tools for physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other diseases. A painless and safe test, it can often replace invasive procedures that would be otherwise necessary to diagnose a malignant tumor or assess response to treatment.
In addition to utilizing the technology detailed above, BHO was the first private practice in a six-state region to introduce the CellSearch Circulating Tumor Cell (CTC) Test. In January 2009, BHO joined leading cancer institutes in offering this simple blood test that helps physicians make more informed decisions about caring for patients with metastatic breast, prostate, or colorectal cancer. The test—the only diagnostic platform intended to capture, identify, and monitor circulating tumor cells in patients with certain types of metastatic cancer—can provide valuable information about the progression of the disease as early as the first cycle of treatment. The CTC was named “Top Medical Innovation of 2009” by the Cleveland Clinic.
